What is Hypnotherapy

Many clients are very sceptical at first and come to see me after years of failing to get results by other methods. They are often the ones who respond best to hypnotherapy and frequently tell me they wish they had come to see me years ago! Please do not worry about or believe all the strange myths and stories about hypnosis, Let me explain to you just how Hypnotherapy works and how much it could do for you as it has for so many others.

Many people think they cannot go into Hypnosis! That is not true - virtually everyone can. So please do not worry about it - I haven't yet had a client who has been unable to relax into hypnosis. Those you find it difficult are usually the ones that need it most and who have the most to gain from hypnotherapy.

I often meet people socially who say "I can't be hypnotized!" I tell them how sorry I am for them; firstly because they are likely to be very stressed, unable to relax and very nervous of hypnosis, and secondly because they haven't found a good Hypnotherapist to help them! Others will say "I am too strong willed to be hypnotized". Again not true; much more likely to be too nervous or not even willing to try, Strong willed clients are likely to get very good results because they will be very motivated and determined. Hypnotherapy can benefit everyone!

Hypnotherapy is using Hypnosis to solve your problems. Hypnosis is only a total relaxation of mind and body. It is a perfectly natural, normal state and a very safe comfortable way to be. Day dreaming is a light state of hypnosis and as you know you are always in total control as you would be in Hypnosis. Hypnosis is a great feeling. People think sleep is total relaxation, but it is not. 5 minutes of hypnosis can be better for you than 30 minutes of sleep.

In hypnosis you are always 100% in total control and cannot be made to say or do anything against your will. Should you want to, you can open your eyes anytime you wish stand up and walk out, without any problems at all. But having experienced the super feeling of total relaxation it is very unlikely that you would want to do that. You will remember every thing that you say and hear and everything that happens while you are in hypnosis. It is a very safe and comfortable process. Many of my clients are amazed to find out just how enjoyable it is, how comfortable they feel and how aware they are throughout.

Virtually everyone can go into hypnosis, although depths of hypnosis will vary from person to person. A few - roughly 10% of the population - will go into hypnosis very easily and deeply, like the people you see on TV or stage shows etc. These people are very lucky, but even they cannot be made to do or say things against their beliefs. They are also very extrovert and love being on the stage! Nearly all of the remaining 90% can go into Hypnosis easily, but some find it more difficult to relax into hypnosis and these people have even more to gain.

There are many methods of going into hypnosis - or induction as it is called professionally - but I usually use a gentle, reassuring talk while you relax in a comfortable reclining chair. The feeling of total relaxation has to be tried to be believed. I am trained in Biofeedback techniques and use Biofeedback to measure your level of relaxation. We will be able to measure how much more relaxed you become, as you get more used to the good feeling of total relaxation.

Once you are fully relaxed, you can access your sub-conscious mind and recall the long-forgotten memories, which are often the cause of the problems bothering you now. Hypnotherapy is a wonderful way of releasing you from the pain, grief, traumas, hurts, upsets & worries of the past. Once these problems have been found and dealt with, the quality of your life is going to improve considerably, as many of my clients have already found out. When you have completed your course of therapy it is very very rare that the problems will ever return.
